Credit Card Software
Credit card software or programs work similar as Windows or Mac to run
the transaction you create at a retailer.
Swiping or entering your credit card activates the reader, which then
transmits your information to a computer containing credit card software
that translates the information on the cards magstripe. The magnetic
stripe on the back of your credit
card contains your credit card number, PIN, and any vital information.
After the credit card software receives this information, it's then sent
by a high-speed modem to the main source referred to as the acquirer,
for authentication. The acquirer obtains the account information, for
instance, the available balance for the account, expiration dates, ID
verification data, ect. The acquirer then transmits this information
back to the store where the transaction completed.
The stores POS credit card program then translates the information the
acquirer has transmitted back about the individuals account then either
approves the transaction or declines it. If the transaction has been
declined, and explanation can be provided by the software explaining the
reason the credit card was rejected.
